Kameryn McCollough became an associate attorney at Andersen Law PC in April 2018, after nearly two years supporting the firm as a contractor-attorney.
At ALPC, Kameryn mainly practices family law, which includes a variety of cases such as dissolution of marriage, allocation of parental responsibilities and post-decree modifications. She works with Beth on cases from start to finish and is frequently in contact with clients, assists in gathering and organizing financial documentation and other supporting documents, drafts pleadings, assists with preparation for mediation and hearings, and participates in general strategy meetings on how to move cases forward and possibly work toward settlement.
Like Beth, Kameryn’s personal experiences shaped her interest in the law and ultimately guided her to her practice in family law.
“My family did foster care when I was a child, with two of my siblings having been adopted through foster care,” Kameryn explains. “My earliest interactions with attorneys were with guardians ad litem who were there to represent the best interests of the children in the foster care system. As I got older, I became interested in politics, government and law, which guided me to law school. Once there, I realized I enjoyed aspects of law dealing with children, specifically family law, and moved forward with my career with that in mind.”
After she spent her first year out of law school at a bankruptcy firm, Kameryn met Beth and began her work at ALPC in July 2016.
She feels that, given an ALPC motto of “never harm a child,” the firm is a great place for her to share and grow her expertise in family law, while keeping a focus on what is best for the children in a case.
“Many of our cases have children involved, and we take it very seriously that case strategy, settlements and hearings keep the focus on the family moving forward and making sure we set the family up for success after going through a divorce or other domestic case,” she says.
Kameryn loves that her work at ALPC gives her the opportunity to help clients during what is typically a difficult period of their lives. ALPC’s clients appreciate the knowledge of the law that she and the rest of the firm’s team have and that they work hard to settle cases but are fully prepared to represent their clients in court when necessary. She believes it is important that she maintains a positive attitude about each new case, while working toward the best solution for the family.
Kameryn was born in California and raised near Littleton, Colorado. She graduated high school in South Dakota, where her parents and siblings currently live. She graduated from the University of Denver, cum laude, with a bachelor’s degree in international studies with minors in political science and Spanish, then went on to earn her law degree from the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law. There, she participated in the International Law Society and graduated with a concentration in international law.
Kameryn uses the continuing legal education requirement of her bar license to keep up on changes in family law, as well as take classes in other areas of law to maintain a broad understanding of law, and staying up to date on other areas of law that often coincide with her family law practice.
Beyond the law, Kameryn loves to travel and explore new places with her husband. They got engaged in Scotland and honeymooned in Alaska, and Kameryn studied abroad in Spain. She’s an avid reader who also enjoys cooking and watching cooking shows, and working on fixing up her house.
